Maye Kassem is an Associate Professor of Comparative Politics at the American University in Cairo. She received her B.A. from the American University in Cairo, and an M.A and Ph.D. from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). 

Kassem teaches courses in Comparative Politics with special reference to the Middle East and Developing Systems.

Her published books are "In the Guise of Democracy: Governance in Contemporary Egypt," published by Ithaca Press in 1999, and "Egyptian Politics: The Dynamics of Authoritarian Rule," Lynne Reinner Press, 2004. She has also contributed chapters to edited books and articles.

Kassem is the organizer of the Political Science Seminar and is also Faculty Advisor for the Cairo International Model United Nations CIMUN) and Cairo International Model Arab League (CIMAL).
